Peñarol confirm line-up for today’s debut appearance

Peñarol Head Coach Pablo Bouza has confirmed his line-up for today’s debut appearance. Uruguay’s first professional rugby team will be up against Brazil’s first, Corinthians. The teams will square-off at 7pm (Rio de la Plata) this evening.

Bouza has opted to experiment. This including with his captain, Alejandro Nieto named to start out of position in the second-row. He is lock the scrum together with South African Louis Conradie. A second African will start with Namibia’s Obert Nortje named at hooker.

Additional players from outside Uruguay in the XV can be found at fly half and on the left wing. The pivotal position will see Bradley Thain start. It sees the scrum-half import officially being used in a different position. Meanwhile, Portugal’s Raffaele Storti starts on the wing.

The remaining names are all Uruguayan players, many of whom went to RWC 2019. This sees notable players starting on both sides of the front-row with Mateo Sanguinetti and Diego Arbelo joining Nortje in an all-RWC 2019 front-row. Both Nieto and N8 Santiago Civetta also played in Japan, although fellow back-rowers Maxime Sonneveld Juanjuan Garese did not and are u20s products who may but for Uruguay in 2020.

In the backs the world class Santiago Arata starts at scrum-half. The Castres-bound No9 has already amassed 43 test caps and 14 test tries. He will have Uruguayan RWC company in the backs with Agustín Della Corta, Tomás Inciarte, Nicolás Freitas and Federico Favaro all starting.

The fixture will be played at the Estadio Charrúa, Uruguay’s national rugby stadium in Montevideo. The match will be streamed live by Súper Liga Americana e Rugby (SLAR) TV. It can be viewed by clicking here.
