Dan Faleafa signs for Rouen, Austin move off

Dan Faleafa is no longer heading to the Gilgronis. The Tonga lock signed for Austin from Coventry prior to Rugby World Cup 2019 but has now accepted a spot as a medical joker with Stade Rouen of the French Pro D2 and won’t be joining Major League Rugby as planned.

It’s not clear if the Gilgronis will look overseas for a similar replacement. With Australian flanker Maclean Jones now set to join, the team could instead opt to permanently shift versatile Samoan Potu Leavasa to lock where he started in Saturday’s game against Utah.

Faleafa is not the first player announced by the club who did not eventuate this season. South African back row Wesley White departed early in the preseason and has since left for England. Fijian flyhalf or fullback Enele Malele never arrived, instead joining the Fijian Latui for the Global Rapid Rugby season.
