Austin signs former All Blacks prop Jamie Mackintosh

Jamie Mackintosh is headed back to the USA. The 35-year-old loosehead prop has signed on with the Austin Gilgronis for the remainder of the 2020 Major League Rugby season. He has arrived in Texas and is expected to play this weekend against Utah.

Affectionately known as ‘Whoppa’, Mackintosh stands 6’4″ (1.94m) and tips the scales at nearly 290lbs (131kg). He captained New Zealand to two consecutive IRB u21 titles in 2005 and 2006 before making one test appearance for the All Blacks against Scotland in November 2008.

Mackintosh was the longest-serving captain in Southland history before signing with the Ohio Aviators for the 2016 PRO season. He played nine seasons of Super Rugby with the Highlanders and Chiefs and has spent the past three years in the French Top 14 with Pau.
