Trio excluded from Jaguares roster for South Africa tour

Agustín Creevy, Felipe Ezcurra and Lucio Sordoni are among the excluded players from Los Jaguares’ roster to tour South Africa. The Argentine Super Rugby side will play a three match tour over the coming weeks, facing the Stormers on February 22; the Bulls on February 29; and the Sharks on March 07.

As expected, former captain, Agustín Creevy misses out. He was named to start against the Reds in yesterday’s encounter, only to be ruled out with Julián Montoya starting and Santiago Socino featuring as the reserve hooker.

Lucio Sordoni started together with Montoya and Mayco Vivas in the front-row. The scrum lost their first feed of the match and the injection of Joel Sclavi proved decisive in the second-half. Sclavi and Santiago Medrano are the tight heads on the 28-man roster, although Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro covers both loose head and tight head.

Rookie Bautista Pedemonte is yet to play this year, although this is not likely to continue for very long. He has been included on the 28-man roster, which contains five other backrowers: Rodrigo Bruni, Francisco Gorrissen, Marcos Kremer, Tomás Lezana and Javier Ortega Desio.

In the backs Felipe Ezcurra misses out following an underwhelming opening half against the Reds. His half time replacement, Tomás Cubelli was instrumental in the comeback victory Cubelli and Gonzalo Bertanou are the scrum halves named to tour South Africa.

Fly half Joaquín Díaz Bonilla has been declared fit to tour. He joins Domingo Miotti as the two players for the position of pivot. This sees rookie Tomás Albornoz missing out. Albornoz mae his Super Rugby debut against the Reds, scoring a conversion.

Questions remain over inside center Lucas Mensa. Although Jerónimo de la Fuente is fit and included in the tour, the continued absence of Lucas Mensa is of note. He is training with Los Ceibos, which sees rookie Santiago Chocobares preferred.

Gonzalo Quesada will rotate on tour. In fact, the rotation began against the Reds. This is the case despite Matías Orlando being out for the season and Joaqúin Tuculet unable to make the roster.
