Felipe Etcheverry joins Uruguay for Sevens Challenger Series

Rugby World Cup select Felipe Etcheverry has been called into Uruguay’s squad for the upcoming Sevens Challenger Series. The 23-year-old flyhalf replaces Peñarol teammate Maxime Sonneveld on the roster in the only change from the group that won the Mar Del Plata tournament last month.

Etcheverry is joined by two other RWC 2019 participants in flanker Manuel Ardao and center Agustín Della Corte. Both are also signed to Uruguay’s Súper Liga Americana de Rugby franchise, along with wingers Baltazar Amaya and Ignacio García, and fullback José Iruleguy.

The first of two South American tournaments on the Challenger Series kicks off in Viña del Mar, Chile, next weekend. Montevideo will host the second a week later, with the top eight teams moving on to the World Series Core Qualifier event at the Hong Kong Sevens in April.
