2020 Rugby Championship: Australia to host Argentina in Newcastle

In week four of the 2020 Rugby Championship, Australia will play host to Argentina in Newcastle. The announcement completes the list of Rugby Championship venues for Los Pumas this year.

The Wallabies will receive Los Pumas at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on September 05. It is to be just the second rugby test match to be played in the city located in the state of New South Wales.

Newcastle is the second largest city in the state behind Sydney. Its greater metropolitan area has a population of 500,000.

The match is to be the 18th game between the countries in Australia. The first match was played in Brisbane in 1983, a match in which Los Pumas shocked the rugby world by winning 18-3.

Since joining the competition in 2012, Los Pumas have played seven test matches in Australia. They have been played in the cities of Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, and Perth. The 2018 fixture in Gold Coast saw Tomás Lavanini famously tackling Israel Folau on full-time to lodge the ball loose and complete a victory.
