Tai Tuisamoa returns to pro ranks with SD Legion

Former US Eagles lock Tai Tuisamoa is making a surprise return to professional rugby with the San Diego Legion. The 39-year-old is one of four former San Diego Breakers forwards who have been added to the Major League Rugby roster for the 2020 campaign.

Tuisamoa won the last of his six test caps in 2014 and spent the 2014-15 season with London Scottish in the RFU Championship. He has continued to turn out for his home club OMBAC since the end of the 2016 PRO season and also took on a coaching role with the team in 2018.

Back for a third season with the Legion are Sione Tu’ihalamaka and Chris Turori. Tu’ihalamaka, 28, was used primarily as a loosehead prop in 2018 but was used in both the second and back rows in 2019. Turori, 26, started the first four games in 2019 on the blindside flank before injury ended his season early.

Openside flanker Derrick Broussard returns to the club after missing the entire 2019 campaign. The 29-year-old from Huntington Beach has represented the Philippines in test rugby. He appeared in six games for the Legion in 2018.

Meanwhile newcomer William Wardlaw bolsters the backline. Also registered with Belmont Shore, the 29-year-old outside center has played for Howe of Fife and Boroughmuir in his native Scotland, and spent a season with West Harbour in Sydney’s semi-pro Shute Shield competition.
