Dwayne Polataivao named captain of Utah Warriors

Utah Warriors coach Chris Latham has named new signing Dwayne Polataivao as his captain for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old Samoan international becomes the third captain of the Salt Lake City-based club in MLR following Paul Lasike in 2018 and Tim O’Malley in 2019.

The choice is a logical one for two reasons in particular. Polataivao is assured of his starting place in the No9 shirt for the Warriors, and has a previous working relationship with Latham from Rugby World Cup 2019 where the former Wallabies fullback was an assistant coach for Manu Samoa.

Named as vice-captain is veteran second row Saia Uhila. Known for his uncompromising physicality, the 33-year-old has played in every match for the Warriors since the inaugural 2018 MLR campaign. Current Warriors No8 and USA international John Cullen was vice-captain in 2019.
