World Rugby has unveiled a new logo for Rugby World Cup 2021. Also confirmed are the venues and dates for the flagship women’s tournament that will take place on New Zealand’s North Island in September and October of next year.
Next year’s event will be the 9th edition of the Women’s World Cup. As in 2017 there will be 12 teams competing but notable changes sees identical gaps in match days for all teams and the addition of Quarter Finals for the first time. Gender-neutral branding has also been adopted, the previous WRWC tag simplified to RWC 2021.
The competition will take place entirely on the North Island, with Auckland’s Waitakere Stadium and Okara Park in Whangarei hosting the pool stage and Quarter Finals. The Semi Finals, Bronze Final, and Cup Final will all be played at Auckland’s iconic Eden Park.
Three pool matches will be played with four days rest between each, the same gap leading into the Quarter Finals. Six days will separate the Quarter and Semi Finals with a full week allowed before the Bronze and Cup Finals.
The confirmed match days are as followed:
POOL DAY 1 – Saturday, September 18
POOL DAY 2 – Thursday, September 23
POOL DAY 3 – Tuesday, September 28
QUARTER FINALS – Sunday, October 3
SEMI FINALS – Saturday, October 9
FINALS – Saturday, October 16
Nine teams have qualified thus far including hosts and defending champions New Zealand, 2014 champions England, Australia, Fiji, France, South Africa, and Wales. North America will be represented by the USA and Canada who finished in 4th and 5th respectively in 2017.
