CBRu Approve Corinthians for Súper Liga Americana de Rugby

As reported by Brazilian rugby experts, Portal do Rugby, Brazil’s national governing body, the CBRu has approved Corinthians for the inaugural Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) season.

The decision means that at long last, Corinthians is officially going to compete in SLAR and that Brazil now has a professional rugby team. It follows months of no public communications. With the team now having official CBRu approval, the player roster, staff details, and venue information are soon to be announced.

There are a number of reasons for the snail-pace of the team launch, although the central one is money. The CBRu’s former CEO Agustín Danza left his role with a sizable deficit. Portal do Rugby have confirmed that Danza took on financial commitments without the approval of the council. This le to problems with staff members and sponsors.

Corinthians are to debut in SLAR in round two of the competition. They will do so in an away match against the Olímpia Lions in Asunción. The Paraguayans will face Los Ceibos in the first round in an away fixture in Argentina.
