Agen have signed Argentine prop Jerónimo Negrotto as a medical joker until the end of the season. The 31-year-old tighthead specialist joins the Top 14 club with immediate effect from Pro D2 side Mont-de-Marsan, where he has been since 2016.
Originally from Rosario, Negrotto represented Argentina at age grade level up to under-20s before making the move to Europe. He signed for Italian side Crociati in 2012, then spent two seasons in Fédérale 1 with Cognac. The jump to Pro D2 came in 2015 with Tarbes, and after one season he moved to Stade Montois.
This will be Negrotto’s first experience in the Top 14. He joins former coach Christophe Laussucq at Agen, who was in desperate need of a tighthead after a plan to acquire Fiji World Cup starter Manasa Saulo fell through. US-eligible Dave Ryan, the regular No3, has been ruled out for several months with a serious hamstring injury.
