Canada names Sevens squads for Oceania leg

Canada has named their Men’s and Women’s squads for the upcoming Oceania leg of the World Sevens Series. The circuit continues in Hamilton, New Zealand, on January 25 with Sydney, Australia, held the following weekend. Both are combined two-day events.

The Men’s side has made two changes to the squad that finished 11th in Cape Town. Lucas Hammond returns after missing the entirety of 2019 with injury to take the spot of Cooper Coats. In the forwards, Andrew Coe steps in for the injured Matt Mullins.

A third-place finish in Cape Town sees the Women enter Hamilton in fourth overall. Head coach John Tait has retained an identical squad but has called up an additional player in uncapped winger Asia Hogan-Rochester as a traveling reserve for the two-week trip.

Remarkably both the Men and Women have been drawn in identical pools for the Hamilton tournament. Both will compete in Pool C of their respective bracket along with France, Ireland, and Spain. All matches will be broadcast live on the CBC Sports website.
