Lyon signs Joe Taufete’e

Big Joe has signed to play in France, reports RMC Sport. Top 14 club, Lyon have signed the USA Eagles hooker, Joe Taufete’e on a two year contract. He will make the move to Lyon from English Premiership side, the Worcester Warriors.

Taufete’e has twenty test tries from 27 test match appearances. The 27-year-old started in all four of the USA’s RWC 2019 pool matches, facing England in Kobe; France in Fukuoka; Argentina in Kumagaya; and Tonga in Osaka.

In 2019, Taufete’e became the first USA player to be shortlisted for the World Rugby Player of the Year award. It was an eventful year for the Californian who, in addition to appearing in a second Rugby World Cup, also surpassed Keith Wood’s world record for the most tries by a front-rower in test rugby.

Earlier in 2019, Taufete’e scored a hat-trick against Uruguay in the Americas Rugby Championship. He also crossed for a double against Canada which was fifth time he scored two tries in a test match. The previous occasion before doing so against Canada in 2019 was in the famous win over Scotland in Houston.
