Draw revealed for first Challenger Sevens tourney in Chile

World Rugby have confirmed the pools and match schedule of the first stop on the inaugural Challenger Sevens Series. Created as a second tier development tool for the World Sevens Series, the first tournament will be held over two days in Viña del Mar, Chile, beginning on February 15.

There are seven teams from the Americas competing. Three have been drawn together in Pool D. Hosts Chile will play against Brazil, Mexico, and Zimbabwe on Day One.

Uruguay are in Pool A with Japan, Tonga, and Portugal. Pool B pits Jamaica and Colombia up against Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea. Paraguay rounds out the Americas contingent in Pool C with Germany, Uganda, and Italy.

The second stop will be in Montevideo, Uruguay, the following weekend. Previously the two South American tournaments were part of the Sudamérica Sevens Series held in January.
