World Rugby to trial new law in Americas Rugby Championship

World Rugby is to trial a new law in this year’s Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). During the competent will be take place from August 15 to September 12, the law 50:22. will be trialled.

The law may have implications for how the sport is played. It will enable an attacking team to kick the ball into touch from general play only to retain possession at the lineout.

The proposal is that if a player kicks made from inside ones own half an the ball bounces and goes into touch inside the opposition 22 then the kicking team will gain the lineout throw.

The regulation will require sharp defenses, effectively changing the dynamics of wingers who know when to stay deep an when to cover the line.
