DTH van der Merwe The Top Pro 14 Try Scorer of the Decade

DTH van der Merwe was the official top try scorer of the decade in the Pro 14. The 33-year-old with 61 caps for Canada scored 57 tries in the Pro 14, making him the deadliest of all finishers in the Celtic-Italian-South African League over the period of 2010-2019.

van der Merwe first played in the Pro 14 in 2009. After a stint with Saracens, he moved to Scotland to join the Glasgow Warriors. He would play for the team until 2015 when he moved to Pro 14 rivals, the Scarlets. Then, after a second stint in England, he returned to Glasgow in 2018.

With 51 tries for the Glasgow Warriors, van der Merwe is the all-time leading scorer for the team. This accolade combined with him scoring 57 tries over the decade underline the extent of his contribution to the game.

Although he has retired from international duty, there is still the possibility that van der Merwe may return to Canada to finish his professional career in Major League Rugby.
