Peñarol Name Seven New Players

Peñarol continues to announce recruits for the 2020 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). Following the announcement of the signing of u20s flanker Maxime Sonneveld, Seven further players have joined the Uruguayan SLAR team.

The latest recruits are a mixture of senior players and u20s. A notable signing is that of 25-year-old Diego Arbelo. The tight-head prop played in all four of Uruguay’s matches at RWC 2019. He started against Fiji in Kamaishi; was a replacement against Georgia in Kumagaya; started against Australia in Oita; and started against Wales in Kumamoto.

Joining Arbelo at RWC 2019 were two additional new Peñarol signings – flanker Santiago Civetta, and N8 Alejandro Nieto. Civetta played in three RWC 2019 matches while Nieto joins Peñarol from Major League Rugby. Nieto played in Uruguay’s four RWC 2015 matches, doing so against Wales in Cardiff; Australia in Birmingham; Fiji in Milton Keynes; and England in Manchester. In Japan 2019 he faced Georgia, and Wales.

The additional signings are u20s prop Ezequiel Ramos; u20s captain and second-rower Juanjuan Garese; Old Boys fullback José Iruleguy; and PSG fullback Ignacio García.
