Further announcements have come from Peñarol. The latest players to officially sign for the Uruguayan Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) club are Tomás Inciarte, and Agustín Della Corte. Both men went to RWC 2019.
The 23-year-old Tomás Inciarte has 17 test caps. As a busy player over a short period, all 17 caps came in 2018-2019. His debut was against Brazil in the 2018 Americas Rugby Championship where he won his first cap as a try scorer.
At RWC 2019 Inciarte played three matches. He was a replacement against Fiji, and Wales while started against Australia in Oita. In the match against the Wallabies pedantic officiating from TMO Ben Skeen saw Iniciarte’s try disallowed. It was not well received at the time and remains a controversial call.
Inciarte was joined by Agustín Della Corte against Australia. The match was Della Corte’s one RWC appearance and came as a replacement. The 22-year-old debuted in the 2017 Nations Cup and went on to feature in the series win over Namibia in November 2017 and played inside Juan Manuel Cat in Uruguay’s win over Brazil in February 2018.
Both Inciarte and Della Corte are well placed to be in the frame for the RWC 2023 qualifying matches. Them joining Peñarol is welcome news for Uruguayan rugby and brings with it greater benefits such as the pivotal position of fly half being Cat’s to open up a spot at outside center.
