Olímpia Lions sign two players from Africa

The Olímpia Lions player recruitment continues for the 2020 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). The latest names to have signed for the Paraguayan team both come from Africa. They are Liam Hendricks (South Africa), and Max Katjikeko (Namibia).

Hendricks and Katjikeko follow the arrivals of Gabriel Ascárate, Federico Gutiérrez, Facundo Maina, Manuel Montero, Santiago Resino, and Axel Zapata from Argentina, and Facundo Munilla from Spain.

Aged 25, Hendricks joins from Western Province. The former South African Schools player has prior experience playing Super Rugby for the Kings. He is the third prop on the roster, joining Facundo Maina, and local man Enrique Quinteros.

Katjikeko is also a forward, though a flanker. He is no ordinary player but a man who played at RWC 2019. The 24-year-old played in two of Namibia’s RWC 2019 matches and was named to play against Canada only for that match to be cancelled due to the Typhoon.

A tall flanker at 1.96m, Katjikeko can also play second-row though is light for the position at 98kg. He joins Paraguayan Ariel Nuñez as the second flanker on the Olímpia Lions roster.
