Los Ceibos Sign Facundo Cordero

Argentina’s second professional rugby team, Los Ceibos continues to sign players. The 24th, and latest signature is Facundo Cordero. The 21-year-old is the younger brother of Bordeaux’s Santiago Cordero. The brothers both play wing or fullback with the elder having played in a Rugby World Cup and the younger yet to be capped.

Officially, Facundo Cordero joins Tomás Cubilla to become the second winger on the roster. However, Americas Rugby News has learned that Leopoldo Herrera is soon to be announced as a new player for Los Ceibos.

Los Ceibos are to be based in Córdoba, Argentina’s second largest city. The team will be coached by former Puma Ignacio Fernández Lobbe. He knows Facundo Cordero well due to having coached him in Argentina XV and Jaguares XV colors.

Facundo Cordero received plenty of game time in the 2019 Americas Rugby Championship, a tournament wherein the Argentina XV were Grand Slam winners. Among the other wing options from the competition are NOLA Gold’s Julian Domínguez; Los Pumas 7’s’ Matías Osadczuk; and Santiago Carreras who played at RWC 2019.

For Los Jaguares XV, Cordero was a Currie Cup First Division champion. He was a try scorer in the Currie Cup First Division Final against the Griffons.
