Guido Petti Wins Argentina Player of the Year

Guido Petti has won the Argentina Player of the Year Award, the Olímpia de Plata. The second-rower announced as the winner of the rugby award ahead of fellow finalists Pumas team-mate Marcos Kremer and SIC flanker Andrea Panzarini.

Dating back to 1954 the award has a long history. It recognizes Argentina’s best athletes across 36 different sports. Petti winning was expected based on his excellent year for Los Jaguares and Los Pumas as well as an underwhelming 2019 for the test side, wherein few players stood out.

Petti was named by Americas Rugby News in the Dream Team of RWC 2019. He was the only player from the Americas to make the XV.  His numbers were impressive with him being the undisputed best second-rower at RWC 2019. As a ball carrier he made 70 meters; in the lineout he outperformed everyone in stealing 5 of the opposition’s throws; and he also excelled both in defenders beaten and in turn-overs won.

Petti was also among the best players for Los Jaguares in 2019. The Argentine Super Rugby franchise finished second, losing the final against the Crusaders.
