Olímpia Lions confirm nine Paraguayan internationals

Paraguay’s team for the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR), the Olímpia Lions have confirmed nine Paraguayan players on their roster. Previously announced Renato Cardona is joined by eight of his countrymen who will play in the new professional competition.

Following Cardona from the CURDA club are second row Alejandro Montiel, utility back Sebastián Urbieta, midfielder Diego Argaña. San José contributes hooker and current Yakares captain Emilio Gorostiaga, prop Enrique Quinteros, and a pair of highly-rated 20-year-olds in loose forward Ariel Nuñez and winger Marcelo Matiauda. Asunción fullback Juan González completes the group.

Earlier in the week Spain scrumhalf Facundo Munilla signed for Olímpia. Pumas caps Manuel Montero and Gabriel Ascárate are joined by fellow Argentina representatives Axel Zapata, Facundo Maina, Federico Gutiérrez, and Santiago Resino.

Additional names will be confirmed over the coming weeks. The inaugural SLAR season kicks-off in just over three months time.
