The Seattle Seawolves have completed the signing of Juan Manuel Leguizamón. The 36-year-old joins the Major League Rugby side from Los Jaguares with whom he played Super Rugby for from 2016-2019. The move is the latest of a number of high profile signings for the new MLR season.
As a Puma from 2005-2019, Leguizamón appeared in four Rugby World Cups and amassed 87 test caps. He would captain Los Pumas in four test matches and run in thirteen test tries. His final cap was against the USA in Kumagaya at RWC 2019.
From the northern Argentine city of Santiago del Estero, Leguizamón moved to Buenos Aires to play at the highest level in Argentina, the URBA Top 12. His move saw him quickly elevated into Los Pumas where he debuted against Japan in April 2005 and subsequently started against the British & Irish Lions one month later.
His professional career also began in 2005. Leguizamón’s first club was London Irish whom he played for from 2005-2008 in the English Premiership. He was followed by Stade Français (2008-2011), and Lyon (2011-2015) in France before returning to Argentina to become a Jaguar.
Equally comfortable at No8 or flanker, Leguizamón will add further options to the Seawolves’ roster. Among their existing loose forward contingent are capped internationals Vili Toluta’u and Nakai Penny, dynamic blindside Eric Duechle, and vice-captain Riekert Hattingh.
