North American trio named in Dubai Dream Team

Three North American players have been named in the official HSBC Dream Team for the Dubai Sevens. Canadian pair Britt Benn and Ghislaine Landry are joined by Women’s Eagles standout Kristi Kirshe in the select side chosen by the commentary team.

Benn returned to her center spot after missing the Glendale event and made an immediate impact for the Canadians. She scored just one try but her strength in the contact area on both sides of the ball was integral to the team’s resurgence particularly on Day Two.

Joining Benn after leading the side to the Cup Final is captain Landry. After a slow opening day that included a crushing loss to the USA, Landry’s 16-point haul against Australia was one of the best individual performances in the tournament.

Earning her second consecutive Dream Team selection was Kirshe. Her seven tries scored were second only to New Zealand’s Stacey Waaka, who also earned selection to round out the backs. In just her second season on the circuit Kirshe has become an indispensable member of the Women’s Eagles.

The forwards are comprised of two Australians and one New Zealander. Ruby Tui joins Waaka as the Black Ferns selected after they snatched the title away from Canada at the last moment. Sharni Williams and Emma Tonegato got the nod for the Semi Finalist Australians.
