Dylan Pieterse moves from Austin to DC

South African lock Dylan Pieterse has joined Old Glory DC for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 6’7″ (2.00m) lineout target arrived at preseason training this past week and will compete with Fijian pair Api Naikatini and Tevita Naqali for a starting berth in the DC engine room.

This past season was a first in MLR for Pieterse. Aside from the frustrations of Austin’s failures, the 24-year-old saw limited game time behind starters Josh Larsen and captain Ben Mitchell. Pieterse started just one match and came off the bench on six occasions, also filling in on the blindside flank.

Following completion of the 2019 season Pieterse returned to South Africa and played five games for the Leopards in the Currie Cup First Division. He has previously suited up for Eastern Province in the Currie Cup and Boland Kavaliers in the Rugby Challenge.
