Rodrigo Fernández Criado called up by Jaguares

Rodrigo Fernández Criado has been called up by Gonzalo Quesada. He comes in to replace Ignacio Calas who is sidelined for six weeks with an Achilles tendon injury. For Fernández Criado the selection marks his introduction to professional rugby.

Fernández Criado made his debut for Belgrano in the URBA Top 12 in June 2019. Like many others he did so after moving to Buenos Aires to play at a higher club level. He did so from Sporting de Mar del Plata.

Now in December 2019, Fernández Criado is on the verge of Super Rugby inclusion. Standing at 1.97m (6’5″) and weighing 110kg (240lbs) the 21-year-old has the ability and frame for the role. The ongoing training in Buenos Aires with Los Jaguares will enable him to press for a Super Rugby spot.

The call-up of Fernández Criado comes despite him not having been a part of Los Jaguares XV. Of the four second-rowers from the winning roster from the Currie Cup First Division only Calas was included in the roster for Super Rugby. Fernández Criado has his opportunity ahead of Franco Molina, Lucas Santa Cruz, and Jerónimo Ureta.
