NOLA signs Argentina XV star Julián Domínguez

The NOLA Gold have made a significant splash in the free agent market with the signing of Argentine winger Julián Domínguez. He joins on a three-year deal that will see him tied to the Gold through the 2022 Major League Rugby season though he retains an option to join the Jaguares should they come calling.

Domínguez was unlucky not to receive a Super Rugby contract for 2020 after an exceptional 2019 that saw him shine for the Argentina XV in both the Americas Rugby Championship and the Nations Cup. He then scored eight tries in just five games for the Jaguares XV in the Currie Cup First Division.

A product of the famous Pucará club of Buenos Aires, Domínguez played in two consecutive World Rugby u20 Championships for the Pumitas before immediately graduating to senior honors. He made his World Sevens Series debut in 2017 shortly after playing for the Argentina XV in the ARC.

Usually found on the left wing, Domínguez is highly regarded for both his offensive and defensive capabilities. A strapping 6’2″ (1.89m) and 210lbs (96kg), he combines breakaway speed with good upper body strength that makes him very difficult to tackle in one-on-one situations.

Domínguez is the third South American to sign on in New Orleans alongside Uruguay’s Ignacio Dotti and Chile international Nikola Bursic. Argentina XV teammate Tomás de la Vega will play for the Toronto Arrows in 2020, with former Pumita Juan Pablo Aguirre now in New York and Pumas Sevens cap Matías Freyre signed for Houston.
