Uruguay’s Germán Kessler signs for French club Charente

Uruguay’s Germán Kessler has signed for French club Charente. The starting Teros hooker will be playing for Charente until at least the end of the 2019-2020 season.

Despite being aged 25, Kessler has already been capped 53 times by Uruguay. He played in RWCs 2015, and 2019, scoring a try against Wales in Kumamoto. He has appeared in RWC highlight reels for his pass off the deck to Santiago Arata in his try against Fiji in Kamaishi.

Kessler has 14 tries to his name, making him the third highest try-scorer from a front-rower in the history of test match rugby. He is behind retired Irish hooker Keith Wood (15), and current USA hooker Joe Taufete’e (20).

Charente compete in France’s second division, the Pro D2. After 12 rounds of the current season the club is in 7th position, out of 16. The club is thereby in the frame to compete for promotion to the Top 14.

Kessler will join fellow RWC 2019 Teros Agustín Ormaechea (Mont de Marsan), and Manuel Leindekar (Oyonnax) in the Pro D2. Additional RWC Teros competing in France is Felipe Berchesi (Dax) in the Fédérale 1 and RWC 2003 Tero Rodrigo Capó Ortega (Castres) in the Top 14.
