Peñarol sign Teros front-rowers Arbelo and Pujadas

Peñarol has signed Teros front-rowers Diego Arbelo and Guillermo Pujadas. Americas Rugby News was made aware of the signings by Uruguayan rugby writer, Ignacio Chans. The two players join Uruguay’s first professional rugby team after having competed at RWC 2019. Both players join from Montevideo clubs – MVCC, and Champagnat.

Aged 25 Diego Arbelo is a player to have come along way in 2019. He started the year with five prior capped appearances to his name and ended it with four more, all of which came at RWC 2019. Arable started in the win over Fiji; was a replacement against Georgia; and then started against both Australia, and Wales.

The 22-year-old Guillermo Pujadas has 12 caps to his name. Three of them came at RWC 2019 where he was the replacement hooker against Fiji, Australia, and Wales. On all three occasions German Kessler was the starting hooker. He will not be playing in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby. Instead the starting Teros hooker will be playing in the French Pro D2.

Arbelo, and Pujadas follow the announcement of Santiago Arata joining Peñarol from the Houston SaberCats. The trio are the likely starting players for Peñarol at scrum half (Arata); tight head (Arbelo); and hooker (Pujadas) respectively.

Additional Peñarol names are set to be announced over the coming days.
