Manuel Montero to play for Olímpia Lions

Manuel Montero is to play for the Olímpia Lions. The 28-year-old Argentine winger is the first player unveiled in the history of professional Paraguayan rugby. He will play for the team in the new Súper Liga Americana which begins in February 2020.

Montero was a part of the inaugural Jaguares. Were it not for injury set-backs then he would have certainly played more regularly and would also have appeared in two Rugby World Cups. La Pantera debuted for Los Pumas in 2012 as an amateur and has gone on to earn 27 caps.

His most recent cap was against Australia in 2017. It was his only cap that year while his most recent try was against France in Tucumãn in June 2016. It was his 16th test try.

The Olímpia Lions are the first professional rugby team from Paraguay. Montero is to join an expected ten local players with the remaining names to come from abroad.
