Peñarol Confirmed as Uruguay’s Team for Súper Liga Americana

Peñarol has been confirmed as Uruguay’s team for the Súper Liga Americana. The new competition will see professional rugby expand its borders to have a regional tournament in South America.

Club Atlético Peñarol —also known as Carboneros, Aurinegros and Manyas— is a club based on the outskirts of Montevideo. It is commonly referred to as Peñarol based on the location of the club itself.

The Súper Liga Americana will be launched this coming Friday in Montevideo. Confirmed will be the remaining teams and details of the inaugural competition which will kick-off in February 2020.

Peñarol was originally to be one of two Uruguayan teams. The second side, Nacional will not be involved in 2020. The remaining teams are to come from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay. Confirmation on their identities, locations, and player rosters is expected on Friday.
