Missing from the roster are former Pumas to either have departed for Europe or who missed out in preference for other players. Of the second category the three notable names are Juan Manuel Leguizamón, Santiago González Iglesias, and Bautista Ezcurra.
Leguizamón retired from test rugby this year, doing so at the age of 36. His final test match was Argentina’s pool match against the USA at RWC 2019.
González Iglesias and Ezcurra are both currently on the Barbarians roster. They started against Brazil in São Paulo last night and were among the point scorers. Their exclusion from Los Jaguares sees opportunities for other players.
Also missing from the roster is winger Manuel Montero. Injuries saw him previously walking away from a Jaguares contract to play club rugby for Pucurá. He will not be involved in the 2020 Super Rugby campaign despite still being just 28 years of age.
The remaining players listed as gone from Los Jaguares for 2020 are all now playing in Europe. scrum-half Martín Landajo, and loose head prop Santiago García Botta are playing for the Harlequins; tight head prop Enrique Pieretto joined the Exeter Chiefs this week; second-rower Tomás Lavanini is a Leicester Tiger; flanker and Pumas captain Pablo Matera plays for Stade Français; and winger Ramiro Moyano joined Toulon this week.
