RUNY signs Golden Bears fullback Troy Lockyear

Rugby United New York have signed Cal Berkeley fullback Troy Lockyear for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old helped the Golden Bears to back-to-back D1A National Championship finals in 2018 and 2019 while studying philosophy.

Lockyear is a native of Heversham in the north of England but attended the prestigious Eton College near London. While at Eton he was also part of the Wasps academy program. He joined Cal in 2015 and this past season earned 1st team Collegiate All-American honors in both 7s and XVs.

At New York, Lockyear will get the opportunity to learn his trade under England international Ben Foden. The latter is joined by France star Mathieu Bastareaud this season, with other newcomers to date including Penn State hooker Rob Irimescu, Irish duo Cormac Daly and Jason Higgins, and Argentine midfielder JP Aguirre.
