Valdemar Lee-Lo signs for SaberCats in rugby return

After nearly three years in the rugby wilderness, Valdemar Lee-Lo has signed on with the Houston SaberCats for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The powerful prop has overcome persistent knee injuries to return to the professional ranks having seen limited duty with the Seattle Saracens in the BC Premier League in recent years.

Lee-Lo earned Junior All-American honors as a tighthead prop at the 2014 World u20 Trophy and was considered by many to be a future Eagles cap. He was a key player for the Sacramento Express during the 2016 PRO season, playing both sides of the scrum including eight starts at loosehead.

The 24-year-old was a target for the Seattle Seawolves ahead of their inaugural 2018 campaign but the injuries precluded his involvement, and Lee-Lo would miss out on the 2019 season as well. If he can return to the form shown prior to his hiatus, national selection may not be far behind.

It’s on the left side of the scrum that Lee-Lo is likely to feature for Houston, a replacement for Jake Turnbull who has moved to DC. The SaberCats have new arrival Boyd Wiggins and returnee Charlie Connolly as their top two on the tighthead side.
