Benjamín Soto is to retire from international duty. He is to do so after Saturday’s test match in which Chile play host to Portugal in Santiago. Ironically in bringing an end to his international career Soto will complete the full-circle as his test debut was also against Portugal.
The former captain of Los Cóndores has been playing test rugby for Chile since 2012. His debut was from the bench in what was a 28-22 loss against Os Lobos in Santiago. The defeat came after Chile had been leading the match 16-9 at half time.
The N8 from Universidad Católica will earn his 44th cap this coming Saturday. He will do so at the age of 32, marking a relatively early retirement.
His lengthily career has seen him earning caps against Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Kenya, Paraguay, Portugal, Romania, South Korea, Spain, Uruguay, and the USA. He did so in home test matches, tours to Asia, and Europe and matches in the Americas Rugby Championship and Sudamérica 6 Naciones A.
