Old Glory sign Bay of Plenty flyhalf Jason Robertson

Old Glory DC have announced the signing of 24-year-old flyhalf Jason Robertson for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The Mt. Maunganui native joins the team after playing for the Bay of Plenty Steamers in New Zealand’s Mitre 10 Cup.

A New Zealand Universities representative while playing at Waikato, Robertson earned his first senior provincial caps with the province in 2016. He would then spend a season with Tokyo Gas in Japan before joining the Steamers in 2018.

Robertson appeared in 9 of 12 games for the Steamers in 2019, starting two. Bay of Plenty finished in first place in the Championship division and defeated Hawke’s Bay to win promotion to the Mitre 10 Premiership for the 2020 season.

A creative attacker and right-footed goal kicker, Robertson will complement Collegiate All-American signing Mike Dabulas as No10 options for DC. He should form an all-Mitre 10 Cup halfback combination with Auckland scrumhalf Danny Tusitala. Old Glory have now confirmed a dozen additions for their inaugural regular season campaign.
