Following impressive improved as demonstrated at RWC 2019 Uruguay are in negotiations to face Italy in 2020. Ignacio Chans notes that Los Teros are going to secure a three match series as part of the November Internationals with one of these fixtures being against Italy.
If confirmed the fixture would mark Uruguay’s first fixture against a Tier 1 side other than Argentina since 2007. On that occasion Los Teros played host to Italy who also faced Argentina in Mendoza.
In addition to playing in Italy Uruguay are to play against two Tier 2 countries in Europe. The identities of these sides remains unknown and they could be European countries or teams from other regions also touring Europe at the time.
Before November Uruguay will play in the July Internationals and the Americas Rugby Championship. The July Internationals are to be in the form of the Nations Cup which Uruguay will again host in 2020.
