RUNY bring in Cork scrumhalf Jason Higgins

Rugby United New York have signed Irish scrumhalf Jason Higgins for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. A Munster age-grade product and former Munster ‘A’ Player of the Year, the 24-year-old arrives from All-Ireland League champions Cork Constitution.

Higgins has been a standout at AIL level for the past five seasons after graduating from Christian Brothers College. He helped Cork to Munster Senior Cup titles in four of five seasons and AIL titles in both 2017 and 2019. Despite his success he has been overlooked for a senior Munster contract due to the long-term presence of Ireland star Conor Murray and fellow Cork product Duncan Williams.

Mike Petri captained RUNY in their inaugural MLR regular season but it remains to be seen if the 35-year-old will continue in 2020. Second choice in 2019 was Marcus Walsh, himself a former AIL player with Lansdowne who also spent time at Connacht.
