Metcher and Cima extend Seattle stays

Two more pieces of the Seattle Seawolves puzzle for the 2020 Major League Rugby season are now in place. Tighthead prop Tim Metcher and flyhalf Ben Cima have extended their stays with the two-time defending champions for at least one more campaign. It brings the number of re-signings to nine with four additions and six confirmed departures from the playing roster.

Metcher has been the anchor of the Seawolves scrum for the past two seasons. The 28-year-old Australian spent recent months in New Zealand where he was the starting No3 for Counties Manukau in the Mitre 10 Cup. He shared duties with Canadian international Jake Ilnicki during the final weeks of the MLR season.

The new contract for Cima quells speculation that a move to his home town of DC was on the cards. Old Glory will have to wait a little longer with Cima preparing to compete with new signing Ryno Eksteen for the No10 shirt in Seattle. The 10-times capped US Eagle started 16 of 18 games for the Seawolves in 2019.
