Seattle tie in three more for 2020

The two-time defending Major League Rugby champions have agreed new deals with three of their best players to remain in Seattle for the 2020 season. Eric Duechle, Riekert Hattingh, and Shalom Suniula will suit up for the Seawolves for a third straight year after leading the team to their second consecutive MLR Shield victory in 2019.

Duechle, affectionately nicknamed ‘The Beast’, has become a fan favorite with his creative hairstyle and explosive play on both sides of the ball. The 33-year-old flanker appeared in all 18 games this past season, often used as an impact substitute to break open games in the second half.

Starting all but one match was No8 and vice-captain Riekert Hattingh. His eight tries scored tied with Stephan Coetzee and Mat Turner for the team lead. Having now completed the three-year residency requirements, the South African was included in the Eagles long-list for the World Cup and now 25 years old will be looking to break into the test side in 2020.

Club captain Suniula is now 31 but remains a highly respected competitor. Having now settled in the midfield, his creative attacking play and hard-hitting defense are essential components in the Seawolves side. Suniula will remain in Seattle despite bidding farewell to brother Roland who has returned to Austin.
