SaberCats sign Northland prop Boyd Wiggins

The Houston SaberCats have signed former New Zealand age-grade international prop Boyd Wiggins for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. He arrives from Mitre 10 Cup side Northland, a direct replacement for departed Eagles tighthead Paul Mullen.

Wiggins, 26, represented the Baby Blacks at the 2013 World Junior Championship, appearing in five matches including a start against Ireland. He has since played club rugby for Marist North Harbour and Takapuna while being in North Harbour’s extended squad. In 2018, Wiggins joined Northland’s senior squad but has seen only limited action in two seasons.

Houston have signed six new players in the off-season including back row Kyle Breytenbach, scrumhalf De Wet Roos, midfielder Tiaan Loots, outside back Zack Godfrey, and most recently Argentine utility back Matías Freyre. New coach Paul Healy is due to arrive mid-November to begin preseason preparations.
