Legion re-sign Devin Short and JP du Plessis

The San Diego Legion have re-signed two more key players for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. Openside flanker Devin Short and inside center JP du Plessis will return to Torero Stadium for a third consecutive campaign, bringing the numbers of returning players confirmed to 17.

Short is just 21 years old but has been a core member of the side in each of his two seasons. He started all eight games in the inaugural 2018 campaign and 11 games this past year, missing several weeks due to injury. The Junior All-American is tipped to press for senior international honors and will be watched carefully by Eagles selectors in 2020.

A staple in the midfield, du Plessis missed the second half of 2018 but returned fully fit in 2019 and started all but one game in the No12 shirt. The 28-year-old South African named the league’s best back at season’s end after leading the Legion to a spot in the Final. He will have esteemed company alongside in 2020 as All Blacks great Ma’a Nonu has now signed on.

San Diego have now effectively secured their entire first choice side for the coming season with only a few spots on the roster still to be resolved. The team now has several high profile recruits as they look to dethrone two-time defending champions Seattle.
