South African lock FP Pelser signs for Seawolves

South African lock FP Pelser has signed with the Seattle Seawolves for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old joins from Griquas in the Northern Cape where he has played in the Currie Cup and Rugby Challenge for the past three seasons.

Griquas is the fourth regional program that Pelser has been a part of. Originally from Bethlehem in the Free State, he played age-grade rugby for the Griffons before turning out for academy sides at Western Province and the Golden Lions. Pelser also played in the Varsity Cup with the University of Johannesburg.

Standing 6’7″ (2.00m), Pelser will a considerable lineout presence to the Seawolves and joins a growing number of South African players at the club. Hooker Stephan Coetzee, No8 Riekert Hattingh, scrumhalf JP Smith, and fullback Mat Turner are also joined by recent recruit Ryno Eksteen while new coach Kees Lensing spent much of his career in the country.
