Roland Suniula returns to Austin as Jaoudat departs

Roland Suniula will be running with the Herd in the 2020 Major League Rugby season. Having spent the 2019 campaign playing alongside younger brother Shalom en route to victory in the Championship Final, the 32-year-old has returned to Austin, where he lined up with older brother Andrew during the inaugural 2018 season.

Ironically it’s Andrew who Roland has effectively replaced. Now Austin’s team manager, Andrew – the eldest of the three USA-capped brothers – was forced to put off retirement for one more season when the Elite were short on bodies. Roland will help to revive the renamed side that went winless in 2019.

While Suniula arrives in Texas, popular fullback Soheyl Jaoudat departs. The Moroccan international and Clermont academy graduate has signed with Fédérale 1 side CS Beaune. Jaoudat started a dozen games for Austin last season and was in talks with other MLR teams but has opted instead to return to France.
