At RWC 2019 Uruguay left a lasting impression on viewers from around the world. Those fortunate enough to attend matches were full of praise for the performances and commitment of Los Teros.
The South Americans officially had their best ever RWC campaign. They matched RWCs 1999 and 2003 with one win. What set RWC 2019 apart though was the more than just the number of victories. Uruguay were far more competitive, far fitter and achieved their goals overall.
The pre-RWC 2019 targets for Uruguay were to defeat Fiji, and Georgia and to lose by no more than 30 points against Australia, and Wales. Defeating Fiji or Georgia was commonly considered as being a very tough task yet Los Teros opened with a win. Losing by under 30 against the Wallabies or Dragons would also take very special performances.
