RWC 2019 Quarter Finals Confirmed

The pool stage of RWC 2019 has concluded and with it the Quarter Finals have been confirmed. Japan are to be the first Asian team in the final eight of a RWC with them and England replacing Scotland and Argentina from the teams who competed in the Quarter Finals from RWC 2015.

England will compete in the first Quarter Final. They are to do so as Pool C winners and they will take-on Pool D runners-up, Australia. That fixture will be played in Oita on Saturday, October 09. England will be fresh following the cancellation of their match against France.

Also impacted by the cancellation were New Zealand. In having not played against Italy the All Blacks will be up against an Irish side who are coming off a physical match against Samoa. Their Quarter Final will be in Tokyo as the second match of Saturday.

In Quarter Final number three Pool D winners Wales take-on France in Oita. Due to New Zealand and England missing out on their final pool matches Wales and Japan are the only sides to have won every match.

Hosts Japan made history by winning Pool A to set-up a Quarter Final against the Pool B runners-up, South Africa. That contest is to be a re-match from the unforgettable Brighton Miracle in which Japan shocked the Springboks art RWC 2015.
