JP Aguirre signs for Rugby United New York

Rugby United New York have confirmed the signing of Juan Pablo Aguirre for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The Argentine midfielder arrives from Austin, who he joined part-way through the 2019 campaign after a successful collegiate career at Lindenwood that saw him twice receiving honorable mention on the annual Collegiate All-American selection.

‘JP’ made an immediate impression at Austin, playing a starring role in his Week 7 debut against Seattle. He would appear in seven matches, starting in six, while slotting in at both center positions and also covering flyhalf on two occasions. While a capable goal kicker, the 25-year-old was used only in a backup capacity and kicked one conversion.

Aguirre is a native of Buenos Aires and represented Argentina at the 2013 World Junior Championships. He is the first South American player to be signed by RUNY, though he is not classified as an import as he is qualified for the USA on residency.
