Kainoa Lloyd replaces Taylor Paris in Canada squad

Canada have lost a third member of their backs division at the Rugby World Cup. A concussion suffered by Taylor Paris near the end of the match against New Zealand will see the star winger returning to Castres, while Toronto Arrows flyer Kainoa Lloyd will now join the team in Japan.

It’s been a horror run of injuries for Paris, who was ruled out of RWC 2015 on the eve of the tournament with a serious knee injury. He traveled with the team to RWC 2011 but was still a teenager at the time and was not used by coach Kieran Crowley. The brief cameo as a replacement against the All Blacks was his first World Cup appearance.

Lloyd is a familiar face to Canadian fans having started all five of the team’s matches during the Americas Rugby Championship. The 25-year-old has won 11 caps to date. He is also on the books at the Toronto Arrows though his playing time was limited with club captain Dan Moor, Uruguay’s Leandro Leivas, and 19-year-old sensation Avery Oitomen also in contention on the wing.

Already departed from the team were midfielders Nick Blevins and Ben LeSage, who were replaced by a pair of Arrows in Guiseppe du Toit and Theo Sauder. Next up for Canada is a match against South Africa in Kobe on Tuesday. All three new arrivals could be named with the final pool match coming against Namibia just five days later.
