Berchesi on verge of two Uruguayan RWC records

Felipe Berchesi is just 3 points away from the Uruguayan RWC record. In scoring 15 points in Los Teros’ 30-27 upset win over Fiji on Wednesday the fly half is two points short of the record of 17 which was scored by Diego Aguirre at RWC 1999.

Aguirre played at RWC 1999 and 2003. In those tournaments Uruguay completed wins over Spain and Georgia and Aguirre scored a combined total of 30 points. That total matches the number of points that Berchesi has scored in RWCs. He scored 15 at RWC 2015 and now has 30 overall.

Berchesi has thus far played in four RWC matches. Sunday’s game against Georgia will be his fifth. Aguirre played in seven, those being all of Uruguay’s matches from RWCs 1999 and 2003. Berchesi missed out on facing Fiji at Milton Keynes in RWC 2015.
