RWC Rewind Argentina: Pumas Shine Against Ireland in 2015

During the final weeks of waiting for Rugby World Cup 2019 to arrive Americas Rugby News will be taking a look back at some moments from past RWCs involving competitors from the Americas. In week four the feature team is Argentina.

In day six of the series the feature is a tournament the feature is the RWC 2015 Quarter Final against Ireland. Los Pumas would win by an historic margin to eliminate the Irish who went in to the match undefeated in the tournament until that point.

Wingers Santiago Cordero and Juan Imhoff cause havoc with the former assisting in two tries and the later score two of his own. Additional tries would come from center Matías Moroni, and fullback Joaquín Tuculet.

Despite it being England 2015 the match would be played in Cardiff, Wales. Argentina went in having lost narrowly to New Zealand in London before defeating Georgia in Gloucester; and both Tonga and Namibia in Leicester.

Argentina’s win over Ireland put the South Americans into a Semi Final showdown against Australia. The match would be a return to Twickenham though the dream of reaching a first RWC Final would not be achieved.
